Museum of Frida Kahlo

The Museum of Frida Kahlo, also known as la Casa Azul (the Blue House) due to its cobalt-blue walls, is a historic home and art museum dedicated to the life and work of Mexican artist, Frida Kahlo. It is located in the Colonia de el Carmen de Coyoacán in the Mexico City. The building was Frida's place of birth and she grew up there, lived there with her husband, Diego Rivera, for a number of years, and finally died in one of the rooms on the top floor. In 1958, Diego Rivera donated the house and its contents to create a museum in honor of Frida.

The museum contains a collection of works of art of Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera and other artists, along with the Mexican folk art, pre-Hispanic artifacts, photographs, souvenirs, and personal objects. Today, it is the most popular museum in Coyoacan and one of the most visited in Mexico City, with 25,000 visitors monthly. Visitors gain a better understanding of the life and health struggles of Frida Kahlo.
